The project began with a single constraint: nothing unnecessary. Obsidian was conceived as a study in what remains when everything decorative is stripped away — no colour, no location, no context. Just the human form treated as landscape.
Shooting took place over two days in a controlled studio environment. The fabric was chosen for the way it collapsed and held simultaneously, creating silhouettes that felt architectural rather than dressed. Every angle was deliberate. Every shadow was a decision.
What came out of it was a visual language that has since informed how we approach every editorial project. Restraint as a creative position. Silence as a design choice. The idea that the most powerful thing you can put on a page is sometimes nothing at all.
There is something quietly radical about choosing not to explain yourself. Obsidian has no campaign, no narrative arc, no designated meaning. It was put into the world as an object rather than a message — and the response it got confirmed that audiences are hungry for work that trusts them to feel something without being told what to feel.

The project lives in our archive not as a commercial reference but as a reminder. A reminder that the best briefs are sometimes the ones you write for yourself, that creative freedom exercised with discipline produces something no client brief ever could. Obsidian is what happens when a studio stops performing and starts making.
